:: Save Strachan, Stop the Bridge! ::

In order to expand rail service, Metrolinx must remove the at-grade crossing on Strachan Avenue. They have proposed an overpass only 2 meters shorter than the Gardiner Expressway that will cut off access to Strachan from Wellington and Douro Streets and do irreversible harm to the vibrancy and livability of communities and businesses in the area.

There’s a better choice. The City of Toronto and community groups spent over a year evaluating options and talking to Metrolinx, and found this bridge to be the WORST solution. The best solution for the city, the community, and Metrolinx is to lower the rail corridor under Strachan. But Metrolinx has unilaterally – and without any notice – dismissed this choice.

Metrolinx’s concern is cost. We argue that the real long-term costs of an overpass – business losses, reduced property values, and human costs – far outweigh a short-sighted focus on the bottom line.
